Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Eckart Würzner, born in Goslar, Germany, on 10 October 1961 He started his professional life in 1988 as an environmental
consultant to the Heidelberg City Administration. 1993 he Received his doctorate "Dr. rer. nat. Thesis on "Comparative Case Study on
Possible Influences of Noxious Agents in the Atmosphere on Mortality in Agglomeration. In 1996, residence in USA as German Marshall Fund Fellow, study on American cities’ climate protection strategies for the Center for Clean Air Policy in Washington. Along with setting up and managing the environmental authority, he was a founding member and the director of the regional energy agency and established the environment working group at the German Association of Cities and Towns. After six years as Environmental Mayor for the City of Heidelberg, he was elected Mayor of the City of Heidelberg in 2006 and re-elected in October 2014. President of the European Energy Cities Network Member of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy Board Member of the C40 Cities Network In 2016 appointed Honorary Professor at the SRH Hochschule Heidelberg for “Sustainable City-Planning and Smart City’s”. As a father of four children, families and social issues as well as climate and environmental protection policies are particularly close to his heart.
